Measuring an opening for a steel-door quote
Identify the opening, enter width and height in millimetres, and leave final fitting allowances to the supplier.
Identify what is being measured
A structural opening, a door frame and a door leaf are different things. The Beffer aperture fields ask for the opening that will receive the doorset. If you only have an existing leaf or frame measurement, label it clearly in the notes; do not put it into an opening field as though it were the same.
Record width and height separately
Use millimetres (mm). Width is the horizontal opening and height is the vertical opening. A worked entry might be width 900 mm and height 2100 mm; these are example numbers, not a recommended door size. If the opening varies, keep the individual readings in your notes and ask the supplier to confirm the correct ordering size. Do not subtract a fitting allowance yourself.
Describe hardware and quantity
Say how many doors you need and describe handles, locks, panic hardware or access-control needs you already know. If you want standard hardware, say that and let the supplier state what its quote includes. Do not assume that different options have the same price. Add performance requirements you have been given without guessing a certification.
If you cannot measure safely
Save the information you have and return to the same enquiry when the opening can be checked safely. Existing drawings can support an initial estimate; label them as drawings rather than confirmed site measurements. The supplier must confirm suitability, tolerances and any survey needs before ordering.
For a different job, start a new enquiry. To continue existing work, find your saved enquiry.
