Choose a useful starting point
These routes describe different scopes. You can still enquire if the roof type or material is unknown.
Roof repairs and leaks
For leaks, slipped tiles, damaged flashing or storm damage. Describe when the problem appears and what you can see safely.
A roofer may need to inspect the covering and the source of water before agreeing a repair.
Flat roofs
For a garage, extension or other flat roof needing repair, renewal or a new covering. Note any ponding, outlets and rooflights.
The right system depends on the structure, drainage, insulation and existing covering.
Pitched roofs
For tile or slate repair, re-roofing or a new pitched roof. Say whether the job concerns the whole roof or a specific area.
The condition of the structure, underlay, flashings and access can change the scope.
Conservatory roofs
For a leaking or ageing conservatory roof, replacement, insulation or a change to how the room feels and looks.
A supplier needs to assess the existing roof and supporting frame before confirming options.
What helps a roofer assess the next step
Use what you can observe safely. You can leave unknown answers open for review.
- The property postcode and the work you want done, even if you are unsure which roof covering you have.
- Where the issue is, when it started and whether it is getting worse. Say if water is entering the building.
- The roof shape, building type and approximate extent if known. Label rough dimensions as estimates.
- Access constraints, rooflights, chimneys and any preferred timing. Add photos taken safely from the ground or inside.
A quote may need a survey. The supplier should confirm materials, preparation, insulation, access, waste disposal and what is excluded before work is agreed. Budget is optional.
Questions before you send
Do I need to choose a material before I enquire?
No. Tell us what roof you have, what is wrong or what you want to change. A supplier can explain suitable systems after reviewing the roof, drainage, insulation and access.
Can I get a firm price from a short description?
A description helps start the discussion, but the final scope and price may depend on a survey. Ask the supplier to set out preparation, materials, insulation, waste removal, access, exclusions and any guarantee in the quote.
Can Beffer arrange an emergency roofer?
Availability and response time need confirmation. If there is immediate danger, keep clear of the area and seek urgent local help. Never climb onto a roof to take enquiry photos.
