Timber door leaf or complete doorset: what to measure

Make clear whether you need a replacement leaf, a frame or a complete doorset before giving dimensions.

Choose the item before measuring

For a replacement leaf, identify the existing leaf and frame. For a complete doorset, identify the opening that will receive it. Label the measurement target in your enquiry. Do not present a leaf width as the structural opening width.

Keep the original readings

When the selected question asks for them, record width, height and thickness in the stated units. Note any variation and whether the measurements come from an existing door, an opening or a drawing. Leave unknown fields blank and save them for later. Do not remove material or assume a trimming allowance.

Confirm the final specification

Tell the supplier about relevant finish, glazing, hardware or specified performance. JELD-WEN advises using the instructions supplied with the particular door; trimming allowances differ by product. Ask the supplier to confirm final dimensions and fitting requirements before ordering, especially where a performance-rated assembly is required.
